Come dichiarerà lo stesso Dj Hype in un'intervista sul prossimo numero di Defrag Magazine (N°9), i Generation Dub sono davvero un nome su cui contare. Buona parte del suo prossimo-venturo lavoro come discografico sarà proprio dedicato ai padrini della jump up di seconda generazione, i prolifici e potenti Genaration Dub! Per la prima volta in assoluto in Italia, approdano al Linux Club Adam Tindill e Jake Carter , per farci ascoltare l'ossessivo e fluttuante palpitio dei bassi e delle batterie.

Oscuri ed efficaci come pochi altri in circolazione, i Generation Dub incidono con continuità su etichette come la True Playaz (ora Real Playaz), Ganja, Frontline, Propaganda UK e, recentemente, anche per la Ganja-Tek, ultimissima label creata da Hype. Sulla consolle del Linux saranno accompagnati da Andypop & Ale G, dj residents delle serate organizzate da romastyle.info, e, alle selezioni video, i retrofuturisti More*Tv*V. 1° e 3° Sabato del mese, Linux Club, da mezzanotte alle sei, free entry con tessera 2007 (8 euro).

GENERATION DUB

Adam Tindill and Jake Carter otherwise known as Geordie production duo Generation Dub, are standing in the frontline of a new breed of producers who are slowly but surely rising through the ranks of the jungle drum n bass scene. Having cemented a reputation for energetic dancefloor cuts during their apprenticeship at the Formation camp, which enabled them to established themselves as a formidable production partnership, they subsequently caught the ear of a certain DJ Hype and have now been enlisted to serve alongside the likes of Potential Bad Boy and Hazard at True Playaz, Ganja and Frontline. Born and bred in Newcastle, the duo followed similar paths before fate willed them to cross at Music College. Jake grew up listening to rock and hip-hop before being converted to jungle drum n bass by artists such as Goldie and LTJ Bukem, while it was the Platinum Breakz and The Prototype Years albums which brought Adams attention to the bass and the drum, before which he steadily moved from his parents 80s record collection, through hip-hop, hardcore and house.

Their fascination with jungle drum n bass soon developed into a desire to become part of the scene, which initially manifested itself as a desire to DJ. During this formative period, the duo also developed a fascination with the tools of music production, which combined with their aspirations to play an active part in the scene, led them to enroll at a Music College so that they could dedicate most of their time to perfecting their production skills. It was there that, after ending up in a studio together and discovering their mutual love for smoking weed and jungle drum ?n bass, they decided to forge a production partnership.

Contrary to expectation, Music College did not provide them with the necessary skills to produce one of the most demanding forms of dance music, so they decided to quit and refine their skills in Jakes home studio. Before their encounter at college, Jake and Adam were already DJing at various nights around Newcastle, and after they met, they decided to promote an event together called Area 51. Meanwhile, they continued to refine their production skills, using the night to test out their tunes and give them out to other DJs. One of those DJs was none other than Leicester veteran DJ SS, who although not yet entirely convinced by the duos productions, showed an interest and gave them the motivation to keep up the hard work by leaving the door open for a potential release with the Formation camp. The duo latched onto this sparkle of hope, and after a year spent knuckling down in the studio, Generation Dub got their first release with Ghost Busters b/w Monster Sound on Reformed, a subsidiary of Formation for up and coming producers.

This was followed by the now notorious remix of Total Sciences classic Champion Sound on CIA, which brought them to the attention of the whole jungle drum n bass community. But the track that truly placed them into the dancefloors consciousness was their first 12 for Formation, which included the awesome steppy beast Body Snatchers. Caned by absolutely everyone from Grooverider to J Majik, Body Snatchers was Generation Dubs first anthem, and established them as a dancefloor force to be reckoned with. It also paved the way for further releases on Formation, including the excellent Deliverance and Sexy Beast EPs, multiple releases on Reformed, New Identity and the Months series, for which they mixed the CD compilation, and remixes for TOV, Baron Inc. and Grid. Despite a hectic release and DJ schedule, which has seen them play in countries such as America and Sweden, they also found the time to set up their own imprint, Propaganda, which they see as an outlet for their more experimental work under their G Dub moniker, and also a place for nurturing new artists, such as Adams brother Taxman. Generation Dub are now about to embark on a new chapter in their career.

After parting company with Formation, DJ Hype approached them to join his camp, and despite not wanting to get involved with another label immediately after Formation, the offer of joining a camp as prestigious as Hypes was an offer they could not refuse. As they put it themselves, I dont think theres anyone else that would have made us change our minds all the tunes weve ever loved have always been True Playaz or Ganja and here we are signing with them. Its bizarre, like it was meant to be. Now that theyve found their spiritual home, Generation Dub are looking to take their music to the next level and to a broader audience, and what better place for this promising duo to mature than under the expert tutelage of DJ Hype.

linuxclub and drum&bass: che dire di più? di fuori sembra una comune di berlino. all'interno trovo di tutto. festa sotto alla consolle. gente che balla, dalla minigonna "appena uscita dal goa" al punkabbestia alla writer ai tipi che scimmiottano 50 cent agli eramus che trottano di sudore.... è una piazza molto in movimento ed eterogenea ma allo stesso tempo con una identità precisa, si balla e poi tutto il resto...non monolitica, ma diffusa.., non mi ha mai tradito. venendo dal micca, dal rialto, dal branca, dal cesso di casa, mai m'ha deluso. certo la serata trance è stata per me tosta ma ho alzato bandiera bianca con molto rispetto e via a casa...poi tutti i locali del mondo vivono di stagioni. il linux mi permette di fare di tutto, molto spartano, senza pippe di design and architects, al linux c'è atmosfera: non è cosa da poco. "bella pè" chi organizza la cosa. anche se non li conosco.

La comodità è un lusso che non dobbiamo permetterci. Con questa frase in testa ho preso la strada per il Linux sabato scorso. Mezzo giro di raccordo più spicci, era mezzanotte, uscivo da una casa calda e silenziosa, tipica di chi vive la crescita alla ricerca di un sempre maggior agio. Ma come te va? Mi aveva appena scritto un mio amico coetaneo per declinare l'invito. Forse lui non era solo, o forse la sua casa era più calda, oppure i suoi pensieri erano meno viziati dei miei. Fatto sta che gli ho risposto Porto fuori la mondezza, odio il riciclismo, so' tutti dopati. Mi dico che al Linux non crea scalpore un quarantenne che balla travestito da trentenne e parto. Mi do la briga di parcheggiare abbastanza lontano per non avere ulteriori fastidi nella ricerca di un posto, tutto deve scorrere liscio fino all'ingresso. Una passeggiata è quello che ci vuole per abituarsi all'idea, e poi quei marciapiedi li ho battuti per dieci anni, asilo e elementari alla Nicolò Tommaseo, medie alla Luigi Perna. Alcuni cognomi sui citofoni di Via Giulio Rocco sono rimasti gli stessi. Finalmente sono dentro, faccio un giro, lascio la giacca al guardaroba, do un'occhiata alla più bella cassiera da quando hanno inventato la zecca; mi sento al riparo, posso già uscire a fumare una meritatissima sigaretta e far parte di quel gruppo composito che domina l'esterno. Quando arrivi da solo speri sempre di incontrare qualcuno o che qualcuno ti raggiunga. Che fai, stai lì da solo e balli? Desperado! Bè sì qualche volta capita di sentirsi così, magari guardando qualcuno nelle tue stesse condizioni. Al Linux capita un po' meno però. A parte che oramai è raro che non incontri qualcuno, fosse anche per scambiare un sorriso, ma comunque sì, ho anche ballato da solo, come tutti, nell'insieme. E ho ballato soprattutto Drum 'n' Bass che fino a qualche mese fa mi faceva venire i duroni solo a sentirla nominare. Una musica per fuori tempo e fuori spazio, per chi porta i ceci nelle scarpe, per quelli per cui l'unica trasgressione possibile è quella contro la comodità. Grazie a voi che tenete in piedi la baracca.

ANDYPOP

Dj, speaker, promoter nonchè giornalista specializzato in musica hip hop ed elettronica, Andypop si muove da anni nel panorama underground italiano. Dopo aver suonato per anni funk, electropop e rare grooves, nel 1998 sposa la drum'n'bass, selezionandola in tutte le sue forme (ragga-jungle, jump up, liquid funk) ma privilegiando il suo lato più oscuro ed ipercinetico. Ha suonato un po' ovunque in Italia: Puddhu Bar (Torino), Zona Bandita (Venezia), Bluecheese (Roma), Link (Bologna), Acrobax (Roma), MuMu (Napoli), Brancaleone (Roma), Maffia (Reggio Emilia), Linux (Roma), Leoncavallo (Milano), Elettro+ (Firenze), Pergola (Milano), Strike (Roma), Dress Code (Pisa), Forte Prenestino (Roma), Ca.Cu.Bo. (Bologna)....

ALE G

Alessio Grimaldi aka Ale G nasce e cresce a Napoli, dove inizia a cimentarsi nell’arte del dj set. Poi si trasferisce a Roma, dove conduce un programma con Andypop su radio ondarossa 87.9 (Basstation). E' promoter di serate con l'associazione Romastyle, con la quale ha una residenza al Linux Club il
primo e il terzo sabato di ogni mese. Ha fondato a Napoli l'associazione 2STEP ed ha organizzato nell'ambito della Notte Bianca Napoletana il progetto Bassology ed ha una residenza mensile al Mumu Club.

Mortivivi: live vjset con campioni autoprodotti e spezzoni, se non quando interi film, tratti dal cinema d'autore [quelli pallosissimi per intenderci]. Ed in quanto more tv, naturalmente tonnellate di trash televisivo, dai cartoni anni 80 alle televendite.

ISKRA

Iskra non ama i compromessi. Si muove con disinvoltura fra articoli, vino e fornelli. Ma più di ogni altra cosa ama la musica, le sue onde sonore, perchè sa controllarle. Senza lei dietro al banco mixer a settare il settabile, non sarebbe la stessa cosa. E come se non bastasse, ci immortala senza ritegno, ci scruta dentro e fuori con il suo occhio fotografico. Una donna piena di risorse, passionale e coinvolgente...
